According to Bloomberg, a judge has given Activison Blizzard consent to sue Electronic Arts for “contract-interference”. The lawsuit West v. Activison, worth $400 million, proceeded with the judge agreeing that Activision presented enough evidence.
Initially consisting of only Jason West and Vince Zampella, two ex-Activision employees under the subsidiary studio Infinity Ward, the lawsuit now has EA in the fold and 38 existing and former Infinity Ward employees who sued a year prior for unpaid bonuses.
West and Zampella were fired from Activision 4 months after the release of the hugely popular best-seller “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2”, a game produced by Infinity Ward. After their termination, the two sued Activision for $38 million for unpaid bonuses believing Activision released them to avoid paying royalties for “Modern Warfare 2.” Activison countered with their lawsuit stating the two had secretly negotiated with EA during their Activison tenure causing a breach of contract. Activison also affirms that EA helped the pair breach their contract and the two divulged company secrets.
Currently, West and Zampella are working under Electronic Arts after forming their studio, Respawn Entertainment. They plan to release games for the company.
