Super Smash Bros. Switch E3 2018 Predictions

This is the Big Kahuna. My most anticipated game and one I'm sure many are looking forward to. The first trailer dropped on Nintendo's Direct early March but there hasn't been much information since, aside from the introduction of Splatoon's Inklings.

It's unclear whether or not Super Smash Bros. for Switch will be a port or a completely brand new engine and what fighters will make a return or their debut.

So what can we expect from Smash Bros. Switch? 

Let's Predict!

To Port or Not to Port

The biggest point of contention is whether or not Smash Switch will be a port or an all new game engine. 

Methinks an enhanced port. 

Smash Bros. For the Wii U played great. Mechanically, it's the perfect marriage of previous entries, Melee and Brawl. Why fix it if it's not broken? Developers need only to add subtle tweaks to the already robust fightning engine. For the UI (User Interface), I predict it will have a major overhaul to at least make it feel fresher than it probably is.

Release

A fall release would coincide nicely with the holiday season and also the debut of Nintendo's online service. No doubt this game would have fans paying for Nintendo's online service in a heartbeat. 

New or Returning Challengers Approaching

Who will be joining the fray this time around? I have a few guesses.

Returning Challengers

Ice Climbers - The sorely missed duo will make their grand return on the Switch after being benched for technical difficulties on the Nintendo 3DS port of Smash. This will make many happy.

Wolf O'Donnell - The Star Wolf  leader was last playable in Brawl but for one reason or another was not included in the preceding game. I can see him making a returning to increase representation for the Star Fox game series.

New Challengers

Travis Touchdown - No more Heroes 3 is coming to the Switch and the best way to celebrate is have Travis make his debut in the series. Personally, he'll fit right in since the game is already heavy on the humanoid sword wielders. One more can't hurt right. Unlike the other swordsmen that occupy the game, Travis has a Beam Katana which will break the monotonous olden-day medieval warrior type  most of these fighter types fall into.

Crash Bandicoot - With his collection dropping this summer on the Switch, now's the best time for Crash to join in on the fighting fun! Although not official, the public perception had Crash as Sony's platforming mascot so for a generation of players, seeing Mario, Sonic and Crash fighting in one game will be the ultimate surreal scenario.

Waluigi  -The character who's so bad, it's funny. I have to give credit to Sterling for bringing this up but he definitely would be a character who can easily fit in the roster. He's already an Assist Trophy in Smash 4 so there's precedence in the series already. Having him keep his tennis racket would be great promotion for Mario Tennis Aces.

Paper Mario - Another Mushroom Kingdom staple and another selection credited to Sterling. Paper Mario would be a fitting addition to the Smash Switch roster, as he can be designed like Game and Watch and have new fighting moves with his mallet.

Spring Man - Despite being in his own fighting game, it would be nice to see an ARMS fighter make their way to this storied franchise 

Rabbids - I mean they've teamed up with the Mario gang before so this wouldn't be so surprising. I can easily see them having their Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle blasters and their costumes will be those of the most popular inhabitants.  Having the Rabbids in the game is cool but this will probably lead into...

Rayman - The platforming hero will be right at home in Super Smash Bros.

Just..just think about.

Dominic Toretto - Just think about it. It would be amazing.

Okay, I'm joking...but it would still be amazing.
